Lee Murray: One of the Deadliest Fighters on the Planet

Lee Murray was an MMA fighter whose reputation outside the cage was even bigger than the one inside it. This short film is made of the stories told by people who knew him and saw him fight, in their own words.

Six doormen

One friend remembers a night in a club when a few doormen started getting in Murray's face. Then three more came over. "There was three of them. Well, all of a sudden, another three come, there's six." Murray planted his feet. "The first three went, then the others come in. Crack, crack, crack. There was bodies everywhere. I've never seen anything like it." He swears he saw the last man's two teeth fly out.

"Does it make you a bad guy?" the friend asks. "It might, if you're being a bully. I didn't see that side of him. He don't take no shit from anybody."

The stitches

A fighter from the American scene remembers running into Murray just after he had been stabbed, with fresh wounds all over him. Most men who survive an attempt on their life are never the same, he says. Murray was walking around the event with his stitches still in, acting like nothing had happened.

A straightener

Another friend tells of a man who knocked on Murray's door late one night while he was locked up, trying his luck with his partner. When Murray got out, he found the man in a club and asked his friend to referee a fight outside. It went on for about 20 minutes, rolling on the floor, with someone trying to bite someone. Both men had the upper hand at times. It was, the friend says, a proper tear-up.
